LANXESS has launched Vulkanox HS Scopeblue, a new rubber additive designed to help tire manufacturers achieve their sustainability goals. This innovative antidegradant extends tire lifespan by protecting against oxygen and heat-related damage, ensuring durability while reducing environmental impact.
Drop-In Solution with No Process Modifications
As per the LANXESS press release, Vulkanox HS Scopeblue is the sustainable variant of the widely used Vulkanox HS (TMQ) antioxidant. It is chemically identical to its conventional counterpart. Manufacturers can use it as a drop-in solution without modifying existing tire production processes. Additionally, its low volatility and minimal migration tendency ensure long-term stability in tire applications.
Reducing Carbon Footprint by Over Thirty Percent
Compared to traditional TMQ production, Vulkanox HS Scopeblue achieves a 30% lower carbon footprint. This reduction is made possible through:
- Use of biocircular acetone
- Integration of renewable energy in production
- Manufacturing in an ISCC PLUS-certified plant in Germany
LANXESS Scopeblue: A Commitment to Sustainability
Vulkanox HS Scopeblue carries the LANXESS Scopeblue label. This label highlights products with a low carbon footprint or a high proportion of circular raw materials.
“With Vulkanox HS Scopeblue, we offer tire manufacturers a solution that enhances sustainability without compromising performance,” informed Dr. Holger Graf, Head of Functional Tire Additives at LANXESS Rhein Chemie. Dr. Graf added, “By extending tire lifespan and reducing their ecological footprint, we contribute to a more sustainable future in the automotive industry”.
