Larsen & Toubro (L&T) dispatched its indigenously manufactured electrolysers to Kandla. Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Kandla, Gujarat, will install the electrolysers at the upcoming one MW green hydrogen plant.
Milestone in the National Green Hydrogen Mission
The project marks a significant achievement under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. It is India’s first port-based Green Hydrogen facility using domestically produced electrolysers. Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal virtually flagged off the electrolysers. L&T dispatched them from its Hazira manufacturing unit.
Government’s Vision for Green Energy
Sonowal stated, “This milestone strengthens DPA Kandla’s position as a leading green hydrogen hub. We are advancing green energy initiatives, reinforcing our commitment to decarbonising the maritime sector, and setting a benchmark for sustainable port operations.”
Key Features of the Electrolysers and Green Hydrogen Plant
- Indigenous Technology: Manufactured by L&T under the “Make-in-India” initiative, these electrolysers will power the 1 MW Green Hydrogen Plant at DPA Kandla.
- Production Capacity: Scheduled to be operational by July 2025, the plant will produce 18 kg of hydrogen per hour, making it India’s first port-based facility using locally made electrolysers.
- Future Expansion Plans: DPA aims to expand into Green Ammonia production as part of India’s Net Zero ambitions. The initial 1 MW Green Hydrogen Plant is set to scale up to 10 MW in the future, enhancing sustainable port operations.
As reported by swarajyamag.com, the initiative strengthens India’s green energy infrastructure. It positions the country as a leader in the global hydrogen economy.
