Larsen & Toubro (L&T) secured its first international offshore wind sector contract, valued at $100 million. The contract marks the company’s entry into a new market segment, with aspirations for further expansion.
The contract involves the supply of jackets – steel frameworks anchored to the seabed, designed to support offshore wind platforms. With extensive experience in creating similar structures for the oil and gas industry, L&T is confident in applying its expertise to this renewable energy sector.
L&T has placed bids for additional contracts worth between $500 million and $1 billion. To support its growing ambitions, L&T has launched a dedicated Offshore Wind Business.
The company’s 2023-24 annual report highlighted that the division will provide end-to-end solutions for HVAC/HVDC substations and wind turbine foundations, focusing on both fixed and floating structures.
The report stresses the importance of forming strategic partnerships with key industry players, with backing from advanced fabrication facilities in Oman and India.
As reported by newsonprojects.com, in its pursuit of further opportunities, L&T is also partnering with electrical technology firms and floating foundation providers. The company aims to offer comprehensive solutions for upcoming tenders in Europe and the U.S., where demand for offshore wind energy is steadily increasing.
