Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is set to enhance the power capacity of its electrolyser to four megawatts (MW) as it anticipates domestic orders for FY25-26. The decision comes after the company successfully produced its first 1-MW electrolyser in March at its green hydrogen facility located in the A M Naik Heavy Engineering Complex in Hazira, Gujarat.
R Shankar Raman, President, Whole-time Director, and Chief Financial Officer at L&T commented, “We are rigorously testing the electrolyser across various conditions to assess its durability, features, performance, and other critical aspects. Following the confirmation of its stability and competitiveness, our next step is to enhance the capacity of the electrolyser stack to 4 MW. This scale-up will be undertaken in collaboration with McPhy Energy”.
Raman further mentioned that the product refinement and testing phase is expected to extend through FY25, with plans to begin taking domestic orders in FY25-26. Additionally, L&T aims to tap into the international market for its electrolyser division between 2026 and 2031.
As reported by newsonprojects.com, the expansion efforts are supported by a Production Linked Incentive (PLI) of 300 MW awarded under the national green hydrogen mission by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), facilitated by the Solar Energy Corporation of India. The incentive, totalling nearly ₹444 crore, will be utilized over the next five years to enhance L&T’s manufacturing capabilities.
