MAIRE has announced that KT-Kinetics Technology, supported by the technological expertise of NEXTCHEM, has bagged a significant contract with Pengerang Biorefinery Sdn. Bhd.
The joint venture, comprising PETRONAS Mobility Lestari Sdn. Bhd., Enilive S.p.A., and Euglena Co., Ltd., entrusted MAIRE with the licensing, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) services for a Hydrogen Production Unit (HPU) to be built in Johor, Malaysia.
NEXTCHEM will license its proprietary NX Reform™ technology for the project.
Key Role in Biorefinery Development
The HPU will be a core component of the new biorefinery within the Pengerang Integrated Complex.
It is designed to produce approximately 38,000 normal metric cubes per hour of hydrogen, a critical input for the biorefinery’s conversion processes.
Once operational in 2028, the biorefinery will process around 6,50,000 tons of raw materials annually.
These include used vegetable oils, animal fats, and waste from vegetable oil processing, which will be transformed into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), and
bio-naphtha.
NX Reform™ Technology: A Low-Carbon Solution
MAIRE will leverage NEXTCHEM’s advanced NX Reform™ technology, which integrates circularity and efficiency to produce low-carbon hydrogen.
The cutting-edge solution minimizes emissions while maximizing resource recovery, aligning perfectly with the industry’s push for greener alternatives.
A $125 Million Milestone in Energy Transition
The contract, valued at approximately $125 million, underscores MAIRE’s growing role in the global energy transition.
By partnering with PETRONAS and its joint ventures, MAIRE aims to advance the development of low-carbon fuels and cutting-edge SAF production facilities.
CEO Highlights MAIRE’s Commitment to Sustainability
Alessandro Bernini, Chief Executive Officer of MAIRE commented, “This important milestone confirms MAIRE’s pivotal role in the energy transition. Our ability to deliver advanced and integrated solutions enables our clients to lead the way in renewable fuel production, contributing to a more sustainable future”.
As per the press release, with this project, MAIRE reinforces its position as a leader in sustainable technology and renewable energy solutions, supporting global efforts toward a low-carbon future.
