Mitsui Chemicals Expanding Biocatalyst Production Capacity

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. has announced that its subsidiary, Polaris Chemicals, Inc., has commenced the production of biocatalysts used in the manufacturing of acrylamide. Acrylamide serves as a crucial raw material for producing polyacrylamide, a versatile compound employed in applications such as wastewater treatment, paper reinforcement, and crude oil recovery. Due to the rising global demand for acrylamide, Mitsui Chemicals’ biocatalysts for acrylamide production have gained a strong reputation among manufacturers worldwide. This positive reception has led to increased sales and a corresponding need to expand production capacity.

To address this demand, the expansion of production capacity will be carried out through Polaris Chemicals, Inc. This company was established as a collaboration between Mitsui Chemicals and Kasano Kosan Corporation. Kasano Kosan Corporation, a recipient of Mitsui Chemicals’ acrylamide and other products, will play a pivotal role in this expansion. The newly developed production facilities at Polaris will incorporate cutting-edge technologies and insights from Mitsui Chemicals’ Omuta Works, which serves as the central facility for these operations.
