Nayara Energy Patents Process to Improve Petroleum Distillate Quality

Nayara Energy Limited successfully patented an innovative process that significantly enhances the quality of petroleum distillates, such as kerosene, by utilizing a novel adsorbent technology. The breakthrough has led to the development of more stable and marketable petroleum solvent products, including mineral turpentine oil, aviation turbine fuel, and kerosene oil.

The invention, secured under Indian Patent No. 545797, details a method to improve the purification of ‘kerosene-type petroleum distillates.’ Previously, these distillates faced challenges regarding product stability and colour consistency.

Saybolt colour, a critical quality attribute influencing both the application and perception of the product, is significantly improved and stabilized by this innovation, which also reduces organic nitrogen and moisture content.

The patented process involves passing kerosene type petroleum distillates through an adsorbent bed, which enhances Saybolt colour and stability while minimizing contaminants. To reduce environmental impact, the spent adsorbent is treated with water to recover surface hydrocarbons, and then regenerated for future use through thermal oxidation.

The advancement allows refineries to boost productivity and operational flexibility by adjusting their processes to handle various scenarios.

As reported by manufacturingtodayindia.com, patent not only underscores the company’s dedication to innovation but also enhances product quality, positioning Nayara Energy as a benchmark in the industry.
