NHPC and Ocean Sun Collaborate for Floating Solar Technology

NHPC Limited, a known name in renewable energy, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Norwegian firm Ocean Sun to examine opportunities for deploying floating solar technology in India. Both companies will collaborate to set up demonstrations of Ocean Sun’s unique technology, which utilizes photovoltaic panels attached to hydro-elastic membranes.

As reported by ThePrint, NHPC will select appropriate locations across India for the installation of these solar panels. This initiative aligns with NHPC’s commitment to sustainable development and expanding its renewable energy portfolio, which already includes projects in solar, wind, and green hydrogen sectors.

V R Shrivastava, Executive Director (Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen), NHPC commented, “This pact advances our ongoing commitment to sustainable growth and the expansion of renewable energy capabilities. NHPC is actively involved not only in the development of hydroelectric power but also in diverse renewable projects including those in solar, wind, and green hydrogen sectors”.

Kristian Tørvold, the CEO of Ocean Sun said that the agreement aimed at advancing the floating solar energy sector in India. He highlighted that this technology could provide a viable and environmentally friendly option especially for isolated and underprivileged communities.
