Nouryon Launches Low-Carbon Hydrogen Peroxide

Nouryon, a global player in specialty chemicals, has launched Eka® HP Puroxide™, a new low-carbon hydrogen peroxide product. As the first Nordic company to offer this solution, Nouryon provides pulp and paper, mining, and water treatment industries with a sustainable alternative to reduce Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions.

Innovative Production Process for a Lower Carbon Footprint

Nouryon’s sodium chlorate and hydrogen peroxide manufacturing processes are closely integrated, enabling the production of hydrogen peroxide with up to 90% lower carbon emissions compared to conventional natural gas steam reforming. This synergy in production allows Nouryon to offer a regionally sourced, environmentally friendly hydrogen peroxide to European industries.

Commitment to Sustainable Solutions

Ann Lindgärde, Senior Vice President, Renewable Fibers at Nouryon, said, “The growing demand in European industries for low-carbon footprint products aligns well with Nouryon’s sustainability agenda. With the introduction of our new regional hydrogen peroxide product, we reinforce our commitment to our customers by offering a solution that meets stringent industry standards”.

Fossil-Free Hydrogen and Renewable Electricity

Nouryon produces Eka® HP Puroxide™ using fossil-free hydrogen from its chlorate production and oxygen from the air. Unlike traditional methods that rely on natural gas, Nouryon manufactures it in Sweden using 100% renewable electricity. As a result, it ensures a significantly lower carbon footprint.

Jennie Malker, VP of R&D, Renewable Fibers at Nouryon, said, “We are proud to be the first in the Nordics to launch a low-carbon hydrogen peroxide. This Eco-Premium Solution helps customers cut emissions and supports a more sustainable future for hydrogen peroxide users in Europe.”

Eco-Premium Solutions: Driving Sustainable Innovation

Eka® HP Puroxide™ is part of Nouryon’s Eco-Premium Solutions, designed to create more value with fewer resources. According to the press release, the launch highlights Nouryon’s commitment to high-performance, sustainable solutions for European industries.
