Nouryon Receives ISCC PLUS Certification for Green DME in Personal Care Aerosols

Nouryon, a global player in specialty chemicals, has received ISCC PLUS certification for producing dimethyl ether (DME) at its Rotterdam, Netherlands facility. This achievement reinforces the company’s dedication to sustainability by offering eco-friendly alternatives that help customers reduce their carbon footprints while maintaining high product quality and performance.

Ensuring Transparency and Responsible Sourcing

The ISCC PLUS certification is one of the world’s most recognized independent sustainability standards. It covers various sustainable feedstocks, including biomass, circular materials, and renewables. The certification follows a mass balance approach, ensuring full traceability of sustainable feedstocks throughout the supply chain.

Expanding Renewable Chemical Offerings

David Friedinger, Vice President, Personal Care and Pharma, Nouryon stated, “Our ISCC PLUS certification for DME at our Rotterdam site marks a significant step in Nouryon’s commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible sourcing,” he said. “We continue to expand our portfolio of renewable chemicals to meet customer demand for greener solutions”.

Enhancing Aerosol Performance in Personal Care

DME plays a crucial role in personal care applications, serving as an efficient propellant in aerosol-based products such as hair sprays, deodorants, and sunscreen sprays. It ensures a fine, even mist for smooth application and user convenience. Additionally, its solvent properties enhance hair colour sprays and dry shampoos, providing consistent texture and even ingredient distribution.

Expanding Global Sustainability Efforts

With this certification, Nouryon strengthens its global sustainability initiatives. The Rotterdam site joins the company’s other ISCC PLUS-certified facilities, including:

*Herkenbosch, Netherlands – Certified for green chelates

*Delfzijl, Netherlands – Certified for green monochloroacetic acid (MCA)

*Stenungsund, Sweden – Certified for green ethylene oxide, ethanolamines, and ethylene amines

As per the press release, by broadening its portfolio of sustainable solutions, Nouryon continues to lead the industry in developing environmentally responsible chemical products.
