Nouryon has announced that its nine manufacturing sites in Brazil are now powered with electricity solely from renewable energy sources, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transition to a low-carbon economy. Nouryon has sixty manufacturing sites around the world with nine in Brazil, which represent twenty-five percent of the Company’s total electricity usage. This achievement is part of the Company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint.
“Nouryon’s dedication to sustainability extends beyond our products and processes; it encompasses our entire manufacturing network,” said Eduardo Nardinelli, Senior Vice President, South America and Global Carbon Business Leader at Nouryon. Nardinelli added,“These initiatives demonstrate our commitment to reducing our environmental impact while enhancing our customers’ ability to achieve their sustainability goals”.
The press release stated that Nouryon is continuing to explore opportunities to transition other sites in its global manufacturing network to electricity from renewable sources as well.In 2021, Nouryon achieved carbon neutrality1 at five sites in Brazil operated by Nouryon (Imperatriz, Eunápolis, TrêsLagoas (2) and Jacareí), as part of the company’s integrated manufacturing model, offering on-location sodium chlorate and/or chlorine dioxide production.
Nouryon was awarded a Platinum rating by EcoVadis for its sustainability performance in 2022. The Company aims to reduce its absolute scopes 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to 2019, and aspires to be a net-zero organization by 2050.
