NRL and OIL Planning Establishing Compressed Biogas Plants in Northeast India

Oil India Limited (OIL) and Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) are planning to establish eight to ten compressed biogas plants in Assam, marking a significant stride in sustainable waste management for the region.

The joint initiatve, headed by Dr. Ranjit Rath, Chairman and Managing Director, OIL and Chairman, NRL, is set to tackle the pressing issue of waste accumulation in urban areas of Assam and neighbouring Northeastern states.

Dr. Rath highlighted the pivotal role of collaboration with urban local bodies for efficient municipal solid waste collection, signaling a proactive approach to environmental sustainability. Dr. Rath also outlined plans for the transformation of the OIL Township in Duliajan into a SMART city, boasting contemporary facilities, advanced waste disposal and treatment infrastructure, and improved drainage systems.
