NRL Commits to Green Hydrogen Production and Targets Net Zero by 2030

Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) is taking a significant step towards sustainable energy by integrating green hydrogen production into its operations, aiming to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030. Plans are underway to install hydrogen electrolyzers, with production slated to commence by mid-2025.

This move aligns with NRL’s overarching strategy to mitigate its carbon footprint and contribute to the global energy transition. As NRL expands its operations, processing 3 million tonnes of crude oil, the introduction of green hydrogen is pivotal. The refinery anticipates a surge in hydrogen demand from 148 KTPA to 238 KTPA, necessitating the adoption of green hydrogen technology to meet this increase efficiently.

As reported by ETEnergyworld.com, to support future expansions and the integration of sustainable technologies, NRL is exploring various funding avenues, including the possibility of an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 2025.
