NRL Installs 375 Ton Vacuum Tower in Engineering Milestone

In a landmark achievement for India’s energy and infrastructure sectors, Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has successfully installed a massive 375-metric-ton Vacuum Tower at its Residue Upgradation Process Technology Unit (RPTU). This complex and high-stakes operation represents a critical engineering and logistics milestone under the Numaligarh Refinery Expansion Project (NREP), bringing the project significantly closer to completion.

Precision Installation on Elevated Structure

NRL installed the 57-meter-long vacuum tower, with a maximum diameter of 8.5 meters, atop a 32-meter-high structure—highlighting the scale and complexity of the feat. The team carried out the operation using a 1600 MT EAD crawler crane, assisted by a 600 MT trail crane, in a meticulously coordinated, high-precision lift. This successful lift demonstrates the engineering excellence and seamless coordination of the NREP execution team.

Advancing Self-Reliance and Modernization Goals

The milestone reinforces NRL’s role in advancing India’s goals of refinery modernization, technological upgradation, and self-reliance in the energy sector. As a flagship initiative, the NREP aims to significantly enhance NRL’s refining capacity and technological competitiveness. As reported by indiamastermind.com, with the successful installation of the vacuum tower, NRL moves one step closer to realizing its vision for a future-ready, sustainable refining ecosystem.
