Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) is set to commence ethanol production by late July or early August at its bamboo-based biorefinery, according to Managing Director Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan.
The biorefinery, a collaboration between NRL and Finnish firms Chempolis and Fortum, represents a significant investment of ₹40 billion.
As reported by psuwatch.com, this marks India’s first facility to utilize bamboo as a primary raw material, aiming to annually produce 50,000 tons of ethanol, along with 16,000 tons of furfural and 11,000 tons of acetic acid.
