NTPC Partners with Odisha to Boost Green Hydrogen Mobility

NTPC Limited has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Grid Corporation of Odisha (GRIDCO) and Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) to promote green hydrogen-based mobility in Bhubaneswar.

This collaboration aligns with Odisha’s vision of sustainable urban development and energy security.

Green Hydrogen Fuelling Station and Buses

As part of the MoU, NTPC will establish a green hydrogen fuelling station in Bhubaneswar. It will also deploy hydrogen-powered buses for both short- and long-distance routes. These buses will replace fossil fuel-powered vehicles, significantly reducing carbon emissions and promoting eco-friendly public transport.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is providing partial funding to support this innovative initiative.

Odisha’s Push for Renewable Energy

Earlier this month, the Odisha government approved seven renewable energy projects worth ₹13.86 billion. These projects, with a combined capacity of 192.41 MW, aim to strengthen the state’s sustainable energy infrastructure.

The single-window committee of the state’s energy department sanctioned these investments, reflecting Odisha’s commitment to transitioning toward renewable energy sources.

Advancing Decarbonisation and Energy Security

As reported by renewablewatch.in, this green hydrogen mobility project is a step forward in NTPC’s mission to advance decarbonisation and reduce dependency on fossil fuels.

By integrating hydrogen technology into public transportation, the initiative supports cleaner energy alternatives and aligns with India’s broader goals of environmental sustainability and energy independence.
