ONGC Inaugurates New Well in KG Basin to Enhance Oil Output

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) commenced production from its fifth oil well in the KG-DWN-98/2 block cluster-2, located in the Krishna Godavari basin in the bay of Bengal. The development is set to enhance crude oil and natural gas output significantly.

The achievement is a significant milestone, emphasizing the role of a newly installed twenty-inch subsea pipeline connecting offshore wells to the Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessel. Production from the KG-DWN-98/2, also known as the KG-D5 block, began in January, with the crude oil being processed into fuels such as petrol and diesel at refineries.

Currently, ONGC is producing 12,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and 0.4 million standard cubic meters per day (mmscmd) of gas from this eastern offshore block, utilizing four wells. A fifth well, which is expected to begin production in August, is anticipated to contribute to a gas output target of six mmscmd by March 2025.

As reported by projectstoday.com, till date, ONGC has drilled twenty-six wells in the field, including thirteen for oil and seven for gas production. The company aims to have all 13 oil wells and an additional six gas wells operational by the end of March.
