Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has appointed BP Exploration (Alpha), a wholly-owned subsidiary of BP, as the technical service provider (TSP) for its Mumbai High (MH) field.

Located offshore near Mumbai, the field is a critical asset for ONGC’s domestic energy production strategy.

Focus on Enhancing Production and Efficiency

The TSP will carry out a detailed assessment of the MH field’s performance, focusing on improving reservoirs, facilities, and wells.

BP Exploration has projected an impressive 60 percent increase in oil and oil-equivalent gas production over the 10-year contract period.

Optimising Mature Fields for Energy Security

While ONGC continues to develop new hydrocarbon resources through greenfield projects, enhancing recovery from mature fields like MH remains a top priority.

The initiative aligns with ONGC’s broader mission to strengthen domestic energy production and reduce dependence on imports.

Global Expertise to Drive Results

ONGC launched an international competitive bidding (ICB) tender in June 2024 to select a TSP with proven expertise in managing complex, mature reservoirs.

The chosen provider was required to demonstrate capabilities in implementing advanced recovery technologies and adhering to global best practices.

BP’s extensive experience in optimising mature field performance positions the company as a valuable partner in this venture.

A Strategic Step Toward Sustainability

The collaboration reflects ONGC’s commitment to maximising the potential of existing assets while addressing the growing demand for energy.

By leveraging BP’s technical expertise, ONGC aims to ensure long-term productivity and efficiency in the Mumbai High field.
