Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) ramped up its efforts to boost gas production in Tripura to support power generation facilities. The move follows reports of a decline in gas supplies to several gas based power plants in the region.
In the fiscal year 2023-24, ONGC produced 1,527 million standard cubic meters (MMSCM) of gas in Tripura. For the current fiscal year, the company has set a goal of extracting 1,675 MMSCM. To achieve this, ONGC plans to drill twenty new wells in the 2024-25 financial year and will soon add an additional rig to its fleet, which currently consists of six rigs dedicated to gas exploration in the state.
As reported by moneycontrol.com, in addition to new drilling, ONGC is also pursuing cluster drilling at existing well sites, where infrastructure and approvals for exploration are already in place.
