Oriana Power, a solar company specializing in commercial and industrial solutions, will build a gigawatt scale factory in India dedicated to manufacturing alkaline electrolyzers and balance of plant (BOP) modules.
The initiative aims to bolster India’s clean energy transition and reduce its dependence on imported technologies by boosting local production of essential renewable energy components. The company is expected to invest between $25 and $35 million in the new factory.
Alkaline electrolyzers are devices that produce hydrogen gas through electrolysis, a process that uses electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. Oriana Power plans to implement the factory in two phases, with the first phase set to commence in 2026 and achieving an annual electrolyzer production capacity of 500 megawatts (MW).
Currently, India relies on imports for alkaline electrolyzers due to a lack of domestic manufacturing capabilities. As reported by equitypandit.com, the factory will be developed in partnership with Splitwaters, a US-based provider of advanced alkaline electrolyzer and BOP equipment.
