Orion S.A., a global leader in specialty chemicals, has signed a long-term supply agreement with Contec S.A.
Under the partnership, Contec, based in Warsaw, Poland, will provide Orion with tire pyrolysis oil (TPO). Orion will use this feedstock to produce circular carbon black for tire and rubber goods manufacturers.
Enhancing Circular Economy Efforts
By collaborating with Contec, Orion strengthens its efforts to diversify TPO sources.
Orion CEO Corning Painter highlighted, “With the ConPyro® TPO supplied by Contec, Orion can produce large-scale volumes of circular carbon black to meet the growing demand from leading tire and rubber goods manufacturers. This partnership is another step forward in accelerating the transition to a circular economy”.
Innovative Technology for Sustainable Carbon Black
The TPO-based manufacturing process is currently the only circular technology in industrial production that can create high-quality active carbon black.
The method involves exposing end-of-life tires to high temperatures, breaking them down into a feedstock that Orion transforms into virgin-quality carbon black.
Orion’s Industry Leadership in Circular Carbon Black
Orion remains the only company that has successfully produced circular carbon black using 100% TPO as a feedstock.
Additionally, Orion has demonstrated that its circular carbon black can replace virgin carbon black in various applications, further contributing to sustainability in the industry.
Commitment to Sustainability
Contec CEO Krzysztof Wróblewski emphasized, “At Contec, sustainability is a core value. This collaboration with Orion confirms that the industry is evolving, and the circular economy is no longer just a vision—it is becoming a tangible reality today”.
As per the press release, this agreement strengthens the circular economy. Orion and Contec are providing sustainable solutions for the tire and rubber industry.
