PESB Selects Deepak Gupta as CMD of GAIL India

The Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB) has appointed Deepak Gupta as the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of GAIL (India) Ltd, the nation’s flagship natural gas company and a Maharatna PSU. Gupta, who currently serves as Director (Projects) at GAIL, earned the position after a rigorous interview process that included a dozen candidates, nine of them internal executives.

Key International and Domestic Project Experience

Gupta has an impressive track record in executing large-scale energy projects. During his tenure at Engineers India Limited (EIL), he played a pivotal role in the successful rollout of the $19 billion Dangote Refinery & Petrochemical Complex in Nigeria, the largest single-train greenfield refinery in Africa. In India, he has led major initiatives including the HMEL Bhatinda Polymer Project, a cornerstone petrochemical installation, and spearheaded India’s first greenfield refinery project in Mongolia.

Strategic Leadership at GAIL

As reported by businessworld.in, at GAIL, Gupta has overseen critical strategic projects, including the Petrochemical Expansion Project at Pata and the PFCC unit under MRPL’s Phase-III expansion in Mangalore.
