Proweps Envirotec GmbH, a subsidiary of biofuels company GPS Renewables, bagged a contract to expand its Anaerobic Digestion Plant in Västerås, Sweden. The bioCNG facility, which has been operating continuously for the past fifteen years, processes up to 48,000 tons of food waste annually.
As part of the expansion, the plant’s capacity to manage organic waste will increase with the addition of a liquid organic waste reception system. Proweps, designed, supplied, and integrated the new system, which includes tanks, stirrers, valves, and instrumentation, into the existing infrastructure.
The plant is capable of processing various types of waste, such as food waste, packaged supermarket waste, and grease trap sludge with contaminants. Its flexibility to handle multiple substrates, along with its efficient biogas production, enables the facility to produce both bioCNG and bioLNG.
Additionally, it generates high-quality fertilizer suitable for agricultural use. The plant operates with minimal staffing needs while maintaining a clean, modern environment.
Dieter Korz, Managing Partner of Proweps commented, “We are happy to continue our long-standing partnership with VafabMiljö and to further enhance the existing facility. Our ongoing work over the past several years has made a considerable impact, and we are eager to build on that success”.
Proweps is also involved in several engineering projects across Poland, Kuwait, and Israel, focusing on large-scale anaerobic digestion plants. The projects handle various feedstocks, including agricultural, industrial, and municipal organic waste. As reported by themachinist.in, Proweps provides extensive engineering support to GPS Renewables in the design of compressed biogas plants in India.
