Reliance Industries to Commence Building Multimodal Logistics Park near Chennai

Reliance Industries Limited is set to begin construction on a multimodal logistics park in Mappedu, near Chennai, starting in June 2024.

The company secured the ₹1,424 crore project in 2022, which spans 184.27 acres in the Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu.

The development, anticipated to be India’s inaugural park of its kind, is designed to provide efficient, cost-effective, and enhanced logistics services including cargo aggregation and disaggregation, distribution, intermodal transfers, sorting, packing, and repacking.

It aims to become a central logistics hub for the southern region of the country. The park is projected to manage approximately 7.17 million tons of cargo over a span of 45 years.

As reported by Projects Today, and as per a pre-feasibility report, the project will support secondary market clusters in Ranipet, Ambur, Tirupur, and Bengaluru, which are known for industries such as leather, heavy machinery parts, and automobiles.
