Reliance NU Suntech Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Reliance Power, has secured a Letter of Award (LoA) from Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for its ambitious solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.

The company has bagged a 930 MW solar power project along with a 465 MW/1860 MWh BESS, which will be one of the largest deployments of grid storage batteries at a single site, not only in India but across Asia, excluding China.

Project Details and Scope

In an e-reverse auction, the company emerged as the winner for the 930 MW solar energy project, coupled with the BESS.

According to the tender terms, the company will install a minimum storage capacity of 465 MW/1,860 MWh, all powered by solar energy.

The project will provide reliable power with a four-hour daily peak power supply.

Largest Allocation Among Competitors

Reliance NU Suntech secured the largest individual allocation from the five companies. They were competing for a total capacity of 2,000 MW of Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) connected solar power projects. Additionally, they were awarded 1,000 MW/4,000 MWh of energy storage systems.

This marks a significant milestone in India’s renewable energy sector.

Project Timeline

Under the terms of the agreement, SECI will sign a twenty-five-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Reliance NU Suntech.

The solar power generated will be sold to multiple discoms across India.

Furthermore, Reliance NU Suntech will develop and operate the project on a build-own-operate basis, contributing significantly to India’s clean energy goals.

A Pivotal Role

With this landmark project, Reliance NU Suntech is set to play a pivotal role in India’s renewable energy transition. It aims to push the boundaries of solar power generation and energy storage technology.

As reported by thehindubusinessline.com, the project promises long-term benefits. It aims to enhance energy security and sustainability across the country.
