New state guidelines were issued via a Government Resolution (GR) concerning the transportation of hazardous and dangerous chemicals. The guidelines now mandate that drivers possess specific educational qualifications. ‘As per Rule 9 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, drivers of vehicles transporting hazardous chemicals are required to meet the necessary educational standards,’ the resolution highlighted.

The GR also specified that drivers must hold a valid transport vehicle driving license and have proficiency in reading and writing in at least one Indian language and English. Additionally, it requires drivers to obtain a certificate after completing a state-approved three-day training program.

As reported by timesofindia.indiatimes.com, the resolution stated that driving licenses for vehicles carrying hazardous chemicals are only valid for one year. To renew the license, drivers must complete a state-approved one-day refresher course.
