RSWM is Transforming PET Bottles into Polyester Fiber

RSWM, formerly known as the Rajasthan Spinning and Weaving Mills group, a known manufacturer of yarn and knitted fabric in India, has undertaken six sustainability initiatives informed Brij Mohan Sharma, Joint Managing Director (JMD). Sharma emphasized the company’s approach, which involves assigning varying degrees of importance to each initiative and tracking progress through regular reports.

The six sustainability measures encompass renewable energy, biofuel utilization, PET bottle recycling, textile waste recycling, water recycling, and the incorporation of organic manure in at least half of its plants. To bolster its renewable energy efforts, RSWM has established a twenty MW wind power unit and a forty MW wind power facility, along with a thirty-two MW solar facility for internal power supply.

A key focus is the transition from coal to biofuels in the boilers of its plants, with three boilers already operating on biofuel and plans to convert the remaining three by the end of 2025. To address plastic waste, RSWM converts six lakh PET bottles into polyester fiber, significantly increasing its use of recycled polyester in production.

As reported by businessline, the company is committed to minimizing waste generation by repurposing all waste fibres from its spinning and fabric units. Water conservation is another priority, with comprehensive recycling measures in place to ensure every drop of water is reused either for production or other purposes, leading to zero liquid discharge across all facilities.

RSWM is also focusing on converting waste into organic manure and promoting the use of organic fertilizers in its agriculture plots. Performance evaluations are conducted against industry benchmarks, with results disseminated internally to foster employee engagement and accountability.
