Samsung E&A Secures Contract for New Bio Plant

Samsung E&A, a global total solutions provider in the energy industry, has secured a major contract to construct the Songdo Bio Raw Materials Plant for Sartorius, a leading life science company. The company announced that it signed a KRW 518.62 billion agreement with Sartorius Korea Operations LLC for the ‘Sartorius Songdo Campus’ in Korea.

Contract Ceremony

The contract signing ceremony took place at Samsung E&A’s Global Engineering Center (GEC) in Sangil-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul. Top executives from both companies attended the event. Hong Namkoong, President and CEO of Samsung E&A, was present, along with Doug Sang Kim, Managing Director of Sartorius Korea Operations.

New Bio Facility to Support Biopharmaceutical Industry

The new plant will be built in the Incheon Free Economic Zone in Songdo, Incheon. It will serve as a key production and research hub for biopharmaceutical raw materials. The facility will manufacture essential components such as sterile bags, membrane filters, and cell culture media. Additionally, it will offer non-clinical Contract Research Organization (CRO) services to support the biopharma sector.

Samsung E&A to Lead Construction and Equipment Procurement

Having handled the plant’s initial design, Samsung E&A will now take full responsibility for equipment procurement and construction. The company aims to complete the project by 2027.

‘FEED to EPC Strategy’ Strengthens Samsung E&A’s Position

Samsung E&A has been involved in this project from the early stages, including conceptual and basic design, as part of its ‘FEED to EPC Strategy.’ Securing the main construction contract allows the company to oversee the project from start to finish.

As per the press release, the contract also marks an important step for Samsung E&A in expanding its global bio business. By collaborating with Sartorius, a top supplier of biopharmaceutical materials, the company is entering the biomaterials market. This expansion opens the door for future projects and strengthens its position in the bio industry.
