Savsol Lubricants Launches Biodegradable Lubricant

Savsol Lubricants, which is into automotive and industrial lubricants, introduced Savsol Ester 5, a biodegradable lubricant designed for high-end applications. In contrast to traditional automotive lubricants derived from petroleum, Savsol Ester 5 is formulated from edible oil fatty acids, using proprietary molecules developed in-house by the company. The brand foresees potential applications of Ester 5 lubricants in electric vehicle (EV) batteries.

The American Petroleum Institute (API) categorizes base oils into different groups, with groups 1 to 3 derived from crude oil, group 4 comprising synthetic oils, and group 5 representing the most reliable Esters. In India, the usage of Ester 5 lubricants is primarily restricted to high-end vehicles due to their cost, and the industry heavily relies on imports to meet demand.

As reported by businessline, the introduction of Savsol Ester 5 aims to serve as a significant alternative to imports, with the company also exploring blends of Ester 5 lubricants with synthetic oils to enhance affordability. Currently, the company’s Ester 5 production capacity stands at 2,000 tons per annum at its facility in Mahad, Maharashtra, with plans underway to double this capacity by year’s end.
