SECI Announces Ambitious Two GW Solar and Storage Project

Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) issued a call for bids to establish two GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) power projects integrated with energy storage systems (ESS) across India. The projects are to be developed on a build-own-operate basis and must connect to the interstate transmission system.

SECI will engage in a twenty-five year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the successful bidders. The electricity generated from these projects will be sold to various buying entities across the country.

The projects must include an ESS with a minimum capacity of 0.5 MW/2 MWh for every one MW of solar project capacity.

The ESS must be charged solely by solar power to qualify as part of the solar project. Developers have the option to either own the ESS or partner with a third party for its supply, and they are permitted to change the ESS technology at any point during the PPA term.

As reported by pv-magazine.com, bidders must submit a single proposal for a capacity ranging from a minimum of 50 MW to a maximum of 1,000 MW, in multiples of 10 MW.
