Significant lithium deposits have been discovered in Karnataka’s Mandya and Yadgiri districts. The Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD), a division of the department of atomic energy (DAE), identified the resources.

In the Marlagalla area of Mandya district, AMD confirmed the presence of 1,600 tons of lithium. Preliminary surveys and limited subsurface exploration in the Yadgiri district also suggest the existence of lithium deposits.

Exploration is not confined to Karnataka alone. AMD is investigating potential lithium deposits in the Korba district of Chhattisgarh. Additionally, major mica belts in Rajasthan, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh, as well as pegmatite belts in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Karnataka, are being considered for lithium exploration.

A preliminary survey by AMD in Himachal Pradesh identified a surface uranium occurrence in the Masanbal area of Hamirpur district. However, no study has yet been conducted to establish an atomic energy plant in Himachal Pradesh.

As reported by manufacturingtodayindia.com, DAE is keeping an eye on global developments in small modular reactors. Various technologies and designs are under consideration, but there are no current proposals for collaboration with foreign vendors or countries.
