Solvay and Hankook have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on the development of circular silica derived from biosourced and waste materials for tire production.
The strategic alliance combines Solvay’s expertise in silica innovation and sustainability with Hankook’s leadership in manufacturing and market reach.
Advancing Sustainable Silica for High-Performance Tires
Solvay’s silica portfolio is renowned for delivering low rolling resistance, which improves fuel efficiency in internal combustion vehicles and extends the battery range of electric vehicles.
Moreover, the silica offers exceptional wear resistance, significantly extending tire lifespan.
Highly dispersible silica (HDS), a critical component in sustainable tire manufacturing, plays a key role in achieving circularity goals.
Following its successful rice husk ash (RHA) silica production in Livorno, Italy, Solvay continues to pursue circular conversion projects with tire industry leaders worldwide.
