The Sri Lankan government teamed up with Indian company, Petronet LNG Limited, to advance critical infrastructure for the Sobadhanavi Combined Cycle Power Plant in Kerawalapitiya, located north of Colombo.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Sri Lanka’s LTL Holdings Limited and Petronet LNG Limited. The project aims to lower energy production costs, promote the use of cleaner energy sources, and establish a local market for LNG.

The Sobadhanavi power plant, expected to be completed within eighteen months, will become Sri Lanka’s largest independent power producer, primarily utilizing LNG. As reported by devdiscourse.com, the initiative is a key component of Sri Lanka’s broader strategy to transition from traditional thermal power to more sustainable energy solutions.
