In a major step toward enhancing India’s self-reliance in critical minerals, the Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC), Nagpur, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CSIR-NIIST, Thiruvananthapuram. The agreement was formalized during JNARDDC’s 36th Foundation Day celebration. It marks a bold stride toward collaborative innovation, knowledge sharing, and technological leadership in strategic materials.

Dr. Anupam Agnihotri, Director of JNARDDC, called the partnership a game-changer. “We are expanding beyond aluminium to support the national mission on critical minerals. Through this MoU, we aim to jointly address challenges and harness opportunities in materials that will drive India’s energy and technology future,” added Dr. Agnihotri.

Spotlight on Strategic Materials and National Priorities

Themed ‘Unveiling the Power of Critical Minerals for the Next Generation’, the foundation day featured a high-powered technical session. Experts from JNARDDC, CSIR-NIIST, Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Ltd (MECL), Atomic Minerals Directorate (AMD), and Nagpur University gathered. They explored India’s path forward in securing critical mineral resources. Upendra Singh, Head of the Analytical Division at JNARDDC, coordinated the session.

Driving Dialogue in a Shifting Global Landscape

The technical session sparked engaging discussions among scientists and academicians. They highlighted the pressing need to secure India’s critical mineral base amid evolving geopolitical realities. The Times of India reported vibrant participation from multiple research and academic institutions. This added depth and energy to the dialogue.
