TP Solar, a division of Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL), began commercial production at its solar cell manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. The site is recognized as the largest solar cell and module plant in India at a single location.
This follows the launch of solar module production earlier this year and contributes to India’s clean energy goals by reducing dependency on imports. With an initial production capacity of two GW, the plant bolsters Tata Power’s capacity to supply domestically produced solar components for large-scale projects.
The facility’s production capacity is set to increase by an additional two GW, positioning the plant to reach maximum output in the near future.
As reported by projectstoday.com, the Tirunelveli plant has a total combined manufacturing capacity of 4.3 GW for solar cells and modules. The module production line, operational since October 2023, has already produced 1,250 MW of solar modules.
