Tata Steel Special Economic Zone Limited (TSSEZL) and HHP Five Private Limited (Hygenco) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a green hydrogen and green ammonia facility at the Gopalpur Industrial Park (GIP) in Odisha, operated by TSSEZL.
Hygenco, known for its innovative approach to producing affordable green hydrogen, plans to scale up production at this facility to reach one million tons per annum (MnTPA). The initial phase of the project is slated for completion by December 2026.
TSSEZL’s Managing Director, Manikanta Naik, announced that the total production capacity for green hydrogen and green ammonia at the industrial park will be approximately 2.6 MnTPA. Naik emphasized the efforts made to enhance the park’s infrastructure, including critical power and water resources, to support the burgeoning green fuel industry.
Amit Bansal, Founder and CEO of Hygenco, noted that following the successful launch of India’s first green hydrogen plant earlier in the year, this project will utilize their cutting-edge technology to produce cost-effective green ammonia. Bansal highlighted that the initial output is intended for export, with advanced negotiations already underway with several potential clients.
The construction of a utility corridor linking GIP with Gopalpur port is underway, improving logistical and pipeline connections essential for the project. Hygenco has already secured several long-term commitments for green hydrogen supply in India, including from the country’s first megawatt-scale facility in Hisar, Haryana.
As reported by BIO ENERGY TIMES, earlier, TSSEZL had reached agreements with other companies to install green hydrogen and ammonia production facilities with a total capacity of 1.6 MnTPA at the same industrial park.
