Tata Steel and Welspun Corp teamed up to launch hydrogen compliant grade steel pipes specifically designed for transporting gaseous hydrogen. The collaboration, marking a key advancement in clean energy solutions, has led to the creation of API X65 grade pipes.
The pipes passed all critical sour service and fracture qualification tests for transporting hundred percent pure gaseous hydrogen under high pressure at RINA, Italy.
Tata Steel and Welspun Corp became the first Indian companies to produce electric resistance welded (ERW) pipes for hydrogen transportation.
The initiative follows a 2022 memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the companies to develop hydrogen-compliant API-grade pipes via the ERW Pipe route. As reported by devdiscourse.com, Tata Steel provided hot-rolled coils from its Kalinganagar plant in Odisha, while Welspun Corp managed the manufacturing of the ERW pipes.
