Tecnimont Private Limited (TCMPL), an Indian subsidiary of MAIRE’s Integrated E&C Solutions, has joined hands with Paradeep Municipality and the National Institute of Technology, Karnataka – Surathkal (NITK), to establish a biogas plant in Paradeep Municipality, Jagatsinghpur District, Odisha.
The initiative, part of TCMPL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts in India, underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable development.
Advancing Circular Solutions for Waste Management
The biogas plant aims to efficiently manage organic waste through circular solutions.
By converting food and vegetable waste into biogas via anaerobic digestion, the project will provide a renewable energy source to support community kitchens in Paradeep.
The approach not only reduces waste but also promotes energy sustainability in the region.
Empowering Local Communities
The project brings direct benefits to the local population by creating job opportunities in waste collection and management.
Furthermore, it serves as a platform for education and innovation by engaging university students in practical learning and research.
Building on Past Success
This initiative of TECNIMONT builds on the success of a similar pilot plant inaugurated in 2021 at NITK’s campus. That plant, designed to convert food and vegetable waste from hostels and canteens, has contributed to improving energy self-sufficiency within the campus.
A Model for Innovation and Sustainability
By combining education, employment, and renewable energy, the Paradeep biogas plant sets a benchmark for innovative waste management solutions in India.
The press release states that the partnership demonstrates the potential of collaboration. It highlights how municipalities, academic institutions, and industries can work together to drive positive change for communities.
