TERI Introduces Innovative Technology for Achieving Zero Liquid Discharge in Industrial Wastewater Management

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), unveiled a cost-effective technology designed to treat industrial wastewater effectively while ensuring compliance with Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) standards set by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) for Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETP) in industrial clusters.

Spearheaded by Dr. Nupur Bahadur, Associate Director at TERI and the mastermind behind the innovation, the technology has completed a successful pilot project in Kanpur, where it effectively treated effluent discharge from textile units. This innovative UV-Photocatalysis based Advanced Oxidation Technology (TADOX®) has demonstrated exceptional efficacy in reducing key pollutants and achieving ZLD targets in a financially sustainable manner.

As reported by eznews.in, the technology, which can be applied across various industrial effluents, provides a solution to the longstanding challenge of sludge generation. Dr. Bahadur has also proposed integrating renewable energy sources such as solar PV to enhance the efficiency of the treatment process further. Dr. Bahadur advocates for the revision of ZLD guidelines to encourage the widespread adoption of such sustainable solutions throughout the nation.
