Thermax Ltd, a prominent player in energy and environmental services, is currently engaged in discussions with multiple steel companies located in the eastern region for the development of a large-scale coal gasification project. This initiative marks a significant milestone as it would be the first of its kind in the eastern region. Thermax is also actively collaborating with Coal India to explore coal gasification technology.
The proposed gasification project aims to process 100-150 tons of coal per day, with an estimated investment of approximately ₹600 crore. The ministry of coal is committed to fostering investments and technological advancements in coal/lignite gasification projects, in line with India’s aspirations for a cleaner and more energy-efficient future. As reported by LATEST LY, to support the vision, the government has allocated ₹8,500 crore for viability gap funding of coal gasification projects, with the ambitious target of gasifying 100 million tons of coal by 2030.
