Oil India Limited (OIL) has entered into a strategic partnership with French energy company TotalEnergies to address methane emissions in the oil and gas industry.

The collaboration aims to enhance environmental sustainability by focusing on the detection and measurement of methane emissions at OIL’s operational sites across India.

Innovative AUSEA Technology for Precise Monitoring

At the core of the partnership is TotalEnergies’ advanced AUSEA technology, a cutting-edge system designed to detect methane and carbon dioxide emissions.

The AUSEA system utilizes a drone-mounted gas analyzer with dual sensors, providing high-precision detection.

It can also identify the exact source of the emissions, enabling OIL to take effective steps to reduce its carbon footprint and improve operational efficiency.

A Shared Commitment

The collaboration aligns with OIL’s broader commitment to environmental responsibility. It also follows the company’s recent inclusion in the Oil and Gas Decarbonisation Charter (OGDC), a global alliance launched at COP28.

The OGDC focuses on achieving net-zero operations by 2050, with immediate goals of reducing upstream methane emissions and eliminating routine flaring by 2030.

AUSEA Technology Available to OGDC Members

As part of the agreement, TotalEnergies will make the AUSEA technology available to other signatories of the OGDC.

TotalEnergies’ Chairman and CEO, Patrick Pouyanne, noted, “AUSEA is operational on every continent. It significantly supports OGDC’s goal of near-zero upstream methane emissions by 2030.”

Commitment to Sustainability

OIL’s Chairman and Managing Director, Ranjit Rath, emphasized OIL’s commitment to global environmental efforts. He stated, “By joining the OGDC, we reinforce our dedication to reducing emissions.”

Rath also expressed confidence in the collaboration with TotalEnergies, acknowledging the company’s leadership in methane emissions detection.

As reported by msn.com, TotalEnergies and Oil India are setting a new standard for methane emissions management. This marks a key step toward a sustainable energy future.
