TotalEnergies and Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) have reached a major milestone in their regional renewable energy partnership. Their joint venture, Singa Renewables, has received a conditional licence from Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) to import 1 gigawatt (GW) of renewable electricity from Indonesia to Singapore. This marks a significant step forward in their mission to deliver sustainable power across Southeast Asia and accelerate the clean energy transition.
Subsea Interconnector Partnership Signed
Alongside the licence award, the partners signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Singapore Energy Interconnections (SGEI). The agreement outlines joint plans to develop a subsea interconnector, enabling efficient transmission of clean electricity from Indonesia’s Riau Province to Singapore. This interconnector will play a crucial role in realising the region’s cross-border clean energy ambitions.
A Comprehensive Renewable Energy Project
Earlier this year, TotalEnergies and RGE signed a Co-Investment Agreement. They will jointly develop, build, and operate a hybrid renewable power plant in Riau Province. The integrated project will include:
- A solar farm
- A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
- A subsea transmission cable
The signing ceremony took place on May 28, 2025, in Jakarta. It was witnessed by French President Emmanuel Macron and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. This underscores its global significance.
Supplying Clean, Reliable Power to Singapore and Indonesia
As per the press release, the project aims to deliver clean firm power to energy-intensive users in Singapore and industrial facilities near the solar plant in Indonesia. TotalEnergies will contribute its expertise in large-scale energy infrastructure, while RGE brings deep regional knowledge and operational presence in both countries.
“This landmark project contributes to Singapore’s net-zero goal for 2050 while supporting economic growth in Indonesia’s Riau Province,” said Helle Kristoffersen, President Asia and Executive Committee Member at TotalEnergies. “It also reinforces our commitment to ASEAN’s energy transition and energy security.”
Advancing Regional Energy Transition Goals
RGE also emphasized the broader regional impact. “We are doing our part to accelerate the region’s clean energy transition,” said Imelda Tanoto, Managing Director at RGE. “The conditional licence affirms our role in advancing collaboration and decarbonization goals across ASEAN. We remain focused on creating lasting value for communities, markets, and governments alike.”
