TotalEnergies and Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Limited (GSPC) have signed a long-term Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) during the India Energy Week.

The ten-year agreement, starting in 2026, ensures TotalEnergies will supply GSPC with 4,00,000 tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually, equivalent to six cargoes per year.

LNG Supply to Power Industries and Households

TotalEnergies will source the LNG from its global portfolio and deliver it to terminals on India’s west coast.

The supply will cater to GSPC’s industrial customers while also supporting households, businesses, and service stations.

Additionally, it will fuel vehicles running on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), such as auto-rickshaws, enhancing clean energy adoption.

The Strategic Importance of the Deal

Gregory Joffroy, Senior Vice President LNG, TotalEnergies said “We are delighted to have been chosen by GSPC to supply LNG in India. This deal strengthens our leadership in the LNG sector and reaffirms our commitment to India’s energy transition and supply security”.

Milind Torawane, Managing Director, GSPC stated, “This partnership with TotalEnergies, a global leader in LNG, aligns with our strategy to build a strong long-term portfolio. It will help bridge the growing natural gas demand-supply gap in Gujarat and across India”.

He also noted that this deal will enhance GSPC’s presence in the gas value chain, leveraging its transmission and distribution infrastructure.

Natural Gas: A Key Player in India’s Energy Transition

India views natural gas as a crucial component in its energy transition. As a cleaner alternative for industries, households, and transportation, it improves air quality by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and pollution.

The agreement supports India’s efforts to adopt sustainable energy solutions. It also ensures a reliable natural gas supply for various sectors.

According to the press release, TotalEnergies and GSPC have formed a strategic collaboration. This partnership strengthens India’s commitment to expanding its LNG market and promoting a cleaner energy future.
