TotalEnergies Unveils Six New Battery Storage Projects

TotalEnergies has announced its investment in six new battery storage projects, adding 221 MW of storage capacity with an investment of €160 million.

Expanding Battery Storage with Advanced Technology

Kyon Energy, a TotalEnergies affiliate, developed these projects. TotalEnergies acquired Kyon Energy in 2024. Most projects will use next-generation batteries from Saft, another TotalEnergies affiliate and a leader in advanced battery technology.

Construction began at the end of 2024, and the company expects to commission the projects by early 2026.

Strengthening Germany’s Power System

With these projects, TotalEnergies takes a major step in expanding battery energy storage in Germany. The company plays a crucial role in power production, trading, aggregation, and commercialization of clean firm power in the country.

By adding storage capacity, TotalEnergies will help reduce grid congestion. This will enhance system flexibility and support Germany’s renewable transition.

Leadership Perspective on the Initiative

Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, stated, “We are delighted with this significant step forward in developing our integrated power activities in Germany, Europe’s largest electricity market. Implementing and integrating these battery projects will enable us to supply clean firm power to our customers, contributing directly to our targeted 12% profitability in this sector”.

As reported by tankstorage.com, this investment strengthens TotalEnergies’ role in the energy transition. It enhances grid resilience and reinforces the company’s position as a key player in Europe’s evolving power landscape.
