David Stone has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of coal mines at Vedanta Aluminium. He will oversee coal mining operations and work to enhance resource efficiency at the company’s thermal power plants in Jharsuguda, Lanjigarh, and Korba. Stone will also focus on implementing sustainable mining practices.
Vedanta Aluminium currently operates five coal mines, with a total production capacity of approximately forty million tons per annum (MTPA). These mines include Jamkhani, Kuraloi, Radhikapur, Ghogharpalli, and the under-exploration Barra mine.
The company is emphasizing the importance of a robust coal supply chain as part of its larger strategy for backward integration. The coal mines are expected to significantly lower the costs associated with power generation for the company’s thermal assets.
As reported by manufacturingtodayindia.com, while Vedanta Aluminium remains committed to reducing the expansion of coal-fired power in its portfolio, it aims to leverage innovation and digitization to maximize coal resource efficiency.
