Vedanta Appoints Rajiv Kumar as CEO of Aluminium Business

Vedanta announced that its board has approved the appointment of Rajiv Kumar as the CEO of its aluminium business. The decision comes as the company moves forward with its demerger plan, which will separate its businesses, including aluminium, into four independent entities.

Rajiv Kumar’s Appointment and Role

The board approved Kumar’s appointment during a meeting on March 26, 2025, following the recommendation of the nomination and remuneration panel. Vedanta has appointed him for a three-year term and designated him as senior management personnel at Vedanta Ltd.

His leadership will play a crucial role in unlocking long-term value for shareholders and stakeholders.

Vedanta’s Ambitious Demerger Plans

Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal recently reaffirmed the company’s commitment to unlocking value through its demerger strategy. He emphasized that the four new independent companies created from this process have the potential to grow into $100 billion firms each.

The demerger plan, first announced in 2023, will establish four distinct natural resource-focused entities, each with its own management structure, capital framework, and strategic priorities.

Newly Formed Vedanta Entities

Once the demerger is complete, Vedanta will create:

  • Vedanta Aluminium
  • Vedanta Oil and Gas
  • Vedanta Power
  • Vedanta Iron and Steel

Vedanta Limited, which will include Hindustan Zinc, the world’s second-largest integrated zinc producer and third-largest silver producer. As reported by business-standard.com, with Rajiv Kumar at the helm of its aluminium business, Vedanta aims to accelerate growth, enhance efficiency, and strengthen its market position in the evolving energy and metal industries.
