Waaree Energies has announced plans to expand its solar module manufacturing capacity in Brookshire, Texas, effectively doubling its output at the facility. The company will add 1.6 GW of additional capacity, bringing the total to 3.2 GW. This move underscores Waaree’s growing commitment to the U.S. renewable energy market.
Initial $1 Billion Investment Sets Foundation
The company first revealed its U.S. manufacturing ambitions in 2024, investing $1 billion in a solar cell and module plant just outside Houston. The expansion builds on that foundation, responding to rising demand and policy-driven momentum for domestic solar production.
Riding the Wave of Policy-Driven Growth
This expansion comes as the U.S. solar industry experiences a manufacturing boom. Since the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) was enacted in 2022, 84 new solar and storage manufacturing facilities have been launched, and 55 more are under construction, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA).
Of all segments, module manufacturing has seen the most dramatic growth—rising from 8 GW before the IRA to a staggering 52.3 GW as of March 2025, a more than 600% increase.
A Growing Footprint
Even before establishing its Texas plant, Waaree had a strong presence in the U.S. solar supply chain. It had exported over 4 GW of solar modules from its Indian facilities to American customers.
In India, Waaree Energies operates large-scale manufacturing facilities. These facilities have a total installed capacity of 13.3 GW for PV modules, including 1.3 GW from Indosolar. Additionally, they produce 1.4 GW of PERC solar cells.
A Commitment to Long-Term Growth
“By doubling our module capacity to 3.2 GW in Texas, we’re reaffirming a belief that goes beyond business,” said Amit Paithankar, Whole-Time Director & CEO of Waaree Energies Limited. “It’s about trust, resilience, and shared ambition. This expansion is a signal—we’re here, we’re growing, and we’re deeply invested in powering America’s energy future,” Paithankar added.
Future Plans in the Pipeline
In addition to module production, Waaree had previously announced plans to add an integrated solar cell manufacturing unit at the Texas site. Pv-magazine-india.com reports that further details are yet to be disclosed. This addition will make the Brookshire facility one of the most vertically integrated solar manufacturing sites in the country.
