Wood plc, based in Aberdeen, U.K., has been chosen by Bannerman Energy, an Australian listed company, to undertake the detailed design phase for its flagship uranium project, Etango, located in Namibia.
Wood has been involved with the Etango project for over ten years, having delivered two feasibility studies and one pre-feasibility study. As one of the largest undeveloped uranium projects globally, Etango is situated in a well-established uranium mining region in Namibia.
Wood will leverage its hydrometallurgical expertise to advance the project. The Etango-8 definitive feasibility study conducted in 2022 verified the technical and commercial feasibility of an eight million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) throughput rate.
As reported by chemengonline.com, a subsequent scoping study in 2024 highlighted the potential for expanding the project to a 16 Mtpa operation or extending its life from 15 years to 27 years. The Etango-8 project is moving toward a final investment decision (FID), anticipated later this year.
