The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) announced an extension of the deadline for submitting research and development (R&D) proposals under the national green hydrogen mission until April 27. Initially set for April 12, the deadline extension comes in response to stakeholders’ requests for additional time. The ministry had invited R&D proposals from industry players on March 16, 2024. Encouraged by the responses to the ‘Call for Proposals,’ the ministry decided to provide more time for institutions to submit high-quality proposals.

Launched on January 4, 2023, the national green hydrogen mission plans to allocate ₹19,744 crore by 2029-30. With an allocated budget of ₹400 crore until 2025-26, the R&D scheme, guided by ministry-issued guidelines, targets enhancing the affordability of green hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and utilization.

As reported by Business Standard, additionally, it aims to enhance the efficiency, safety, and reliability of technologies across the green hydrogen value chain, fostering partnerships between industry, academia, and government to nurture an innovation ecosystem for green hydrogen technologies. The R&D programme supports various aspects of the green hydrogen value chain, including production, storage, compression, transportation, and utilization.
