Cyient, a global provider of intelligent engineering solutions, has secured a strategic contract to support GreenH Bodø in developing and executing a state-of-the-art hydrogen production and distribution facility in Langstranda, Bodø, Norway. The groundbreaking initiative is part of a joint venture between GreenH and Luxcara.
Driving Green Hydrogen Infrastructure
GreenH, a Norwegian company specializing in renewable hydrogen infrastructure, and Luxcara, an independent asset manager based in Hamburg, Germany, are jointly leading this ambitious project. Their shared vision focuses on accelerating green hydrogen adoption across Europe, starting with a flagship facility in Norway.
Supporting Norway’s Clean Energy Transition
The Bodø project marks a significant milestone in Norway’s renewable energy journey. The facility is designed to supply green hydrogen fuel to the maritime sector and heavy transport industries. It will play a vital role in decarbonizing regional transportation. Under a long-term agreement, it will supply hydrogen to Torghatten Nord AS. This will power the iconic Vestfjorden ferries, a cornerstone in Norway’s shift to sustainable maritime operations.
Engineering Excellence from Cyient
Cyient will provide a full suite of owner’s engineering and detailed plant engineering services. Cyient leverages its robust expertise in green and renewable energy systems, including green hydrogen. The company aims to optimize project execution, improve plant efficiency, and ensure timely delivery throughout all phases of the facility’s lifecycle.
Voices from the Partnership
Espen Lied, COO of GreenH, said, “We are excited to collaborate with Cyient to bring our hydrogen vision to life in Bodø. With Cyient’s expertise, we’ll complete the detailed engineering of our hydrogen plant. This will provide the basis for procurement, construction, and installation of our first facility. The facility will focus on the production and direct bunkering of green hydrogen.”
Espen Berg, Managing Director of Cyient Norway, added, “Green or clean hydrogen is a game-changer in the world’s energy transition to sustainable fuels. We’re extremely proud to support the world’s first-of-its-kind green hydrogen production facility dedicated to maritime transport. With our proven track record in delivering efficient, cost-effective balance of plant design, we’re confident this project will set a benchmark for future hydrogen infrastructure.”
Construction Underway
Civil construction began in the fall of 2024, setting the stage for the timely completion of the hydrogen plant. The press release states that the collaboration signals a strong commitment to building a cleaner, more sustainable future. Bodø is leading the charge in green hydrogen innovation.
